Project Overview
The Old Commodore Hotel in McMahons Point, Sydney, is a long-established local hospitality venue with a history dating back to 1854. Following a major renovation in 2025, the hotel combines its heritage character with contemporary dining and social spaces, including the main bar, dining areas, terrace, and lower-level spaces. Designed by Paul Kelly Design, the renewed venue brings together traditional character, modern hospitality functions, and a coordinated furniture environment.
Project Scope & Product Supply
Craftell Home provided customized furniture for the dining, bar, and terrace spaces at The Old Commodore Hotel. Furniture specifications were coordinated according to the different indoor and outdoor environments, including materials, dimensions, construction, finishes, and functional details.
Note: The project covered both indoor and outdoor environments. Materials, finishes, and construction details were considered according to the demands of frequent restaurant use, routine cleaning, and outdoor exposure to sunlight, moisture, and temperature changes.
Design Requirements & Customized Solutions
The project combined dining, bar, and outdoor terrace environments, requiring furniture to maintain a consistent design language while responding to different conditions of use. Custom solutions focused on materials, dimensions, finishes, upholstery, and construction details to balance visual character, comfort, and long-term commercial use.
Material & Color Coordination — Wood, metal, upholstery, and other materials were coordinated in color and texture to complement the hotel’s overall interior concept.
Customized Dimensions & Proportions — Furniture dimensions and proportions were adjusted according to the spatial scale and circulation requirements of the dining, bar, and terrace areas.
Upholstery Material Selection — Upholstery specifications were selected for the requirements of dining and bar environments, considering comfort, stain resistance, wear resistance, and routine maintenance.
Indoor Surface Finishes — Surface materials and finishing processes for frequently used furniture were selected with consideration for appearance, tactile quality, and everyday cleaning.
Outdoor Material & Structural Adaptation — Terrace furniture was specified with materials and construction suitable for outdoor conditions, taking into account exposure to sunlight, moisture, and temperature changes.
Detailing & Manufacturing Customization — Connection methods, edge details, stitching, proportions, and other craftsmanship details were refined according to the design requirements to ensure consistency between the finished furniture and the overall design concept.
